Nevada Rural Hospital Partners began in 1987 as a grant funded program, one of 13 grantees of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's "Hospital-based Rural Health Care Program." The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's goals were to improve the viability of rural hospitals, improve access to health care for rural residents, and to improve the quality of health services in rural areas.
In the ensuing years NRHP staff and members have successfully applied for and received grants from a variety of agencies and foundations, which have been used to fund and support:

Shared Regional Information OfficerWide Area Network Telemedicine
Technology upgrades (hardware and software)
Shared information technology programs include: conversion from paper and film to all digital records; hospital information systems integration; data disaster recovery; data security; centralized applications for email, network server, website hosting and support.
Technical training and assistance has also been provided, funded partially or in full via grant support, including: standardization of hospital department policies and procedures; quality assurance management; managed care contract review; maximization of reimbursement through proper coding; strategic planning; review of hospital operations; development of charge master; board development; financial management.
